Seconded by UNIDO for three years to UNECA (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Addis Ababa).
Organised industrial surveys, and presented papers on “Industrial Strategies and Policies in various African countries, and Investment Opportunities in Africa” at Ministerial and Head of State meetings at UNECA and OAU (Organization for African Unity); monitored, assisted in preparing project proposals and feasibility studies.
Made field visits to all the 54 countries in Africa and the 17 countries in the Middle East. Focus countries in Africa were:
Eastern and Southern African sub-region: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, Somalia, Seychelles, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe;
Central African sub-region: Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, and Democratic Republic of the Congo (former Zaire);
West African sub-region: Burkino Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo;
North African sub-region: Egypt and Tunisia;
Focus industries in Africa were:
- Agricultural machinery;
- Building materials and construction industry;
- Capital goods/heavy industry;
- Food processing industry;
- Iron and steel industry;
- Leather and leather products industry;
- Non-ferrous metals industry;
- Petrochemicals industry;
- Wood and wood processing industry;
- Eco-touristic resorts and hotels;
- Industrial parks
